Lionel 212 Vintage O Santa Fe Alco A Dummy Unit VG

Lionel catalogued two different Alco 212 diesels. The first is a hard to find United States Marine Corps (USMC) Alco A made in 1958 and 1959. The second is a much more common Santa Fe Alco AA unit made between 1964 and 1966. The USMC Alco was sold as a single A unit. It was included in a few select sets of the late 1950's. Its rather drab, dark blue paint scheme was unexciting when introduced and sales were not up to expectations. Therefore the USMC has become a desirable item. The 212 Santa Fe was the opposite of the USMC. It was sold as an AA unit. Its colorful Santa Fe warbonnet paint scheme was an attractive and popular choice. Unlike the USMC, the Santa Fe was included in many freight and passenger car sets. This item is the dummy unit from those Santa Fe AA sets. It features a plastic shell with the warbonnet paint scheme, plastic truck sides, metal wheels and axles, dummy couplers and metal decorative horn.

This item has been graded per TCA standards C-6: Very Good based on visual appearance. This locomotive shows scratches and paint loss throughout various sections of the shell and chassis. There is also corrosion and rust on the chassis and the horn. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Very Good.
