Here is a Lionel 154 O Prewar Hiawatha Orange Base Automatic Road Crossing Signal -Rare from the early 1940s. This is the rare late Prewar version with an orange base. The flashers operate by placing a 154C track contactor underneath the track and when the train travels over it, electrical contact is made so the bulbs alternately flash. It stands 9 inches tall.
