Here is an Athearn G9001 HO USRA 2-8-2 Mikado Undecorated Steam Locomotive & Tender. This locomotive features intricately realistic detail, metal wheels, a powerful motor, and operating couplers. It is a great running locomotive, especially at low speeds.
Introduced at the turn of the 20th century, the 2-8-2 was an innovator breaking from the traditional manufacturing of locomotives, and featuring a larger firebox paving the way for greater speeds at a higher rate of power! Before we knew it, the 2-8-2 also known as the "Mikado" found itself in rail yards around the world from the United States to the Congo hauling freight from stop to stop. The Mikado would undergo a temporary name change after the Pearl Harbor bombing in 1941 shortly going by the McArthur, before eventually going back to the Mikado name after WW2.
